What is GEL? A Message from your GEL Student Coordinator

Hello Prospective Zags! I hope you are excited about your acceptance to Gonzaga University. My name is Austin Caswell, and I'm Student Coordinator for this year's Gonzaga Experience... Live (GEL) Weekend. What exactly is GEL? GEL will provide, at the very least, a chance for you to jump in and experience the Zag life for one weekend. You'll be given a sampling of the academics, lifestyle, and community that Gonzaga is known for.

The main events will take place on Saturday, where you will kick the day off by checking in, followed by a host of opportunities to explore campus and the programs offered here. The afternoon is packed with small groups, sample classes, and academic information sessions. The evening will start with you being paired with a current Gonzaga student, giving you the chance to ask someone one-on-one about their time here at GU. The evening also includes a number of events that are student-driven and show off student talent. Are you a fan of stories and spoken word? Attend Storyslam! What about live improv or a cappella? Attend one of two GUTS shows or Big Bing's Theory's concert! Gonzaga brings in several famous artists and performers (past acts include Kevin Hart and Florida Georgia Line) and GEL Weekend is no exception. Attend Jerry Harris's hypnotist show- every performance is different, and no one knows what ridiculousness will ensue.

These events are only the surface of GEL. They allow for you to do the much more important work of meeting and engaging with professors, as well as current and prospective Zags. You will get to feel out the community that GU provides firsthand. But, that's still not the best part of GEL. GEL is where you get to meet the people who will be your community for the next four years. You meet will be in your classes and clubs, they will be your friends, best friends, significant others, and ultimately the community that the class of 2020 will create here at GU.

People who attend GEL start building connections that can last a lifetime, an exciting opportunity that shouldn't be missed.
