Why GU?

The May 1st admissions deadline is just around the corner, and we know some of you might still be trying to decide if you want to be a Zag. We asked members of the Gonzaga community, "Why Gonzaga?" and here's what some of them had to say.

Chris Wheatley, Associate Director, Center for Community Action & Service-Learning
"I believe in Gonzaga because it is a place where students can come to get an education, but also to be transformed. For me, I came to Gonzaga with little clarity in my life and I left with a clear sense of my career, a reinvigorated faith, lifelong friendships, and a commitment to serving others. Gonzaga changed my entire life for the better."

MariaFernanda Gomez Gonzalez, current Gonzaga senior
"I've been calling Gonzaga home for the past four years because its commitment to Catholic social teaching inspires me and my peers to advocate for the human dignity of every person. Community support for social justice and open dialogue empowers us to explore our passions with experience and education."

Matt Bahr, Associate Dean, College of Arts & Sciences
"Why Gonzaga? Because our faculty are committed to promoting and supporting rich, personalized undergraduate research experience. As a student, this will give you the opportunity to engage national-level audiences and perhaps even publish your work as an undergraduate."

Kenneth Anderson, Interim Dean & Professor of Management, School of Business Administration
"I believe in Gonzaga because we combine an excellent education with a concern for the growth and development of the whole person. In a world of huge classes, distance education, and MOOCs, our distinctiveness is our focus on and care for the individual."

Mia Bertagnolli, Professor & Chair, Biology Department
"As a long-time faculty member and former student of Gonzaga, I have witnessed the individual attention that our students receive here. This is not just our job – we are called to be here and are committed to providing the opportunities, challenges, and support that are necessary for students to achieve their full potential. By offering excellent academic programs within a culture that promotes service and development of the whole person, Gonzaga provides a transformative educational experience that you don’t want to miss! Come be a Zag!"

Kenji Linane-Booey, current Gonzaga junior
"Why Gonzaga? Because Gonzaga is a place that meets you wherever you are in life and works with you. It works with you to prepare you for life after college in whatever form that may be. And because all it expects from you is YOUR best self."

Kelly Alvarado, Manager, First Year Experience Programs
"You should choose Gonzaga University for the community of care, concern, and accountability, which you will receive from the moment you decide to #BeaZag to being a #ZagforLife. I love feeling like I am more than just a face on our campus. Faculty, staff, and students call me out by name walking on Bulldog Alley or in College Hall. Gonzaga University has provided me with a place I know people expect a high level of service and will support me to deliver that service to our new students. Gonzaga and Spokane have become my home, and we all rally together for Orientation Weekend. Every student’s story matters here!"
